Defense & Preparedness
There are several methods that can be used to manage vegetation and reduce wildfire hazards on your property.
Fire Breaks
A fire break is an area where vegetation has been removed  to interrupt the path of a wildfire and slow fire spread.  Fire breaks can help reduce wildfire intensity and provide additional protection for your property.
Fuel Breaks
A fuel break is an area where vegetation has been thinned rather than completely removed.  Fuel  breaks are often used around properties following existing roads, natural barriers, or contour lines.  They also improve access for equipment and emergency responders.
Masticating
Mastication is especially effective in areas with dense understory vegetation where traditional mowing or manual clearing may not be practical. Â It can improve forest health, increase access for firefighters, and create safer conditions for wildfire suppression.
Mulching
Mulching is a vegetation management technique that grinds shrubs, brush, and small trees into smaller pieces and distributes them across the treatment area. Â While mulched and masticated material can still burn it does so at a much lower intensity than standing vegetation.
Access Roads
Access roads improve wildfire preparedness by providing safe routes for firefighters, emergency vehicles, and property owners. Â They also serve as fuel breaks by reducing vegetation continuity. Â In addition to reducing wildfire risk , access roads improve access for ongoing property management & maintenance activities.
